Western Cot played a second tournament for the first time. They started with a 0-0 draw against Thabong Lorch FC in front of more than 200 fans at the Milestone ground in Garankuwa on Friday.

Thabong Lorch FC looked sharp in the opening exchanges, as they began the match with a fast-paced tempo, moving the ball around nicely and showing signs of the potential combinations that are developing in the team.

Thabong Lorch FC moved from side to side for most of the opening, frequently pinning the Western Cot back through the pace of Mpho Molapo on the right side and pressurising the visitors defence by getting numbers into the box.

However, apart from a brutal shot from Mduduzi Njalo that fly closely wide, no other clear-cut chances were created in a half that saw both teams cancel each other out with well drilled defences.

Benediction Thulare the coach of Western Cot said, “The game was very hectic and it a derby, so it ended with 0-0 but we are looking forward to the next game.”

It was a similar story on the second half, although the tide was much in Western Cot’s favour, as they pressed for a goal. To their credit, Thabong Lorch FC resist the regular Western Cot attack in the second half, as they stoically managed to hold their ground in the face of sweeping attacks involving Molapo, substitute Nkanyiso Zulu and two more off the bench, Mdu Ngema and Tebogo Seola.

The coach of Thabong Lorch FC said, “This game was on and off from our side because when this game started, they didn’t put much effort so second half we have to pick up the pace. This game was too personal, and it was more like derby but that’s not the results we wanted but we going to settle for the one point that we got and I’m proud of the boys they played well.”

This game was personal and some of the players fought inside the ground. “This game was difficult, and we got many strong opponents, but we are happy about the draw at least we got one point,” said Mpho Molapo the man of the match.

There was a lot of positivity to take from the match, none more so than the seemingly rock-solid defensive combination of Mntambo and Msimango.
